Best Estimate Apps for Contractors (2026)

We make QuoteProof. Here's an honest look anyway.

Solo contractors and crews of 1–5 search for "the best estimate app" and get lists written for 50-person construction firms. This one is for small crews quoting service, repair and remodel work from the phone. We describe what each app is built for and who it fits, and point you to each company's own site for current features and prices.

How we picked (and our bias)

QuoteProof is on this list and is the last entry. We included apps small contractors commonly compare when they search for an estimate app or estimating software. Feature notes come from each company's own website as summarized on our photo-to-quote roundup and comparison pages. We don't list star ratings, and we only quote prices we confirmed on a company's site; for everything else, check their pricing page, because prices change.

The list is grouped by the kind of crew each app suits, not ranked.

Joist

What it is: an estimating, invoicing and payments app built for contractors. www.joist.com

Per joist.com/pricing (Oct 2026): Basics $10/mo, Pro $17/mo, Elite $32/mo, with a 14-day free trial. Full comparison: QuoteProof vs Joist.

Best for: solo contractors who mostly need inexpensive estimates and invoices and want to take payments in the same app.

Jobber

What it is: a full field-service suite: booking, quoting, invoicing and payments, scheduling, follow-ups and a client hub. www.getjobber.com

Per getjobber.com/pricing (Oct 11, 2026): plans start at $29/month billed annually. Full comparison: QuoteProof vs Jobber.

Best for: crews that need scheduling, dispatch and a CRM, not just estimates.

Housecall Pro

What it is: a home-service operations platform built around booking, dispatch, invoicing and payments. www.housecallpro.com

Pricing: see Housecall Pro's site. Full comparison: QuoteProof vs Housecall Pro.

Best for: service businesses that live on inbound bookings and repeat maintenance work and want it all in one platform.

SimplyWise

What it is: a set of contractor tools including an AI job-cost estimator, a receipt scanner and a mileage tracker. Its FAQ says you can photograph a room or exterior and get an itemized estimate, entering measurements yourself. www.simplywise.com

Best for: solo contractors and remodelers who want a quick AI starting estimate and also want receipts and mileage handled.

QuoteIQ

What it is: a broad field-service platform with estimates, invoicing, scheduling and an AI estimator that drafts from a job photo for you to review. quoteiq.io

Best for: service businesses (lawn, pressure washing, cleaning, home services) that want quoting, scheduling and more in one login.

CompanyCam

What it is: a job-site photo and video documentation app; some plans add sales tools. companycam.com

Full comparison: QuoteProof vs CompanyCam.

Best for: crews, especially multi-crew outfits, where documenting every job in photos is the main need.

QuoteProof

What it is: a quoting app for solo contractors and crews of 1–5, made by Otech Labs. You photograph the job, it drafts the scope and line items priced on your own hourly rate, materials markup and drive, and you check every line. The customer approves on a link with no account or app, and the approval is stored with a date stamp. When you finish, a time-stamped before-and-after proof report goes to the customer.

What it doesn't do: it doesn't process payments, it isn't a dispatch system, and it costs more than Joist.

Price (per quoteproof.dev/pricing): Starter $49/mo, Solo $99/mo, Crew $249/mo. 7 days free, no card. No free plan.

Best for: owner-operators and small crews who quote from the truck and want every price built on their own numbers.

Estimate app questions

What is the best estimate app for contractors?

There isn't one best app for everyone. Inexpensive estimate-and-invoice apps suit solo contractors who mainly need to get paid, full field-service suites suit crews that need scheduling and dispatch, and photo-first quoting apps suit crews who price from walkthrough photos. Try two on a real job before you commit.

Is there a free estimate app for contractors?

Some apps are free to download, but most charge a subscription for ongoing estimating features. Free trials are common. QuoteProof offers 7 days free with no card and has no free plan. Check each company's site for current terms, because they change.

What's the difference between an estimate app and estimating software?

People use the terms interchangeably. "Estimate app" usually means something you use on your phone at the job, and "estimating software" can also mean desktop takeoff tools for larger construction bids. Small crews quoting service and repair work usually want the phone-first kind.

Does QuoteProof do invoices or payments?

No. QuoteProof drafts quotes from job photos, prices them on your rates, gets the customer's dated approval on a link, and closes the job with a before-and-after proof report. It doesn't process payments. If you need invoices and payments in the same app, look at the other apps on this list.
